Hammerheads controls can work in two different ways:

1 A combined spring system returns the control at the lowest RPM level (forward or reverse). This allows increased security. If the driver releases the throttle, the boat will slow down automatically. (Like cars) Valuable if the driver should fall off the boat not wearing the circuit breaker.

2 By switching on the red button, the driver locks the control in position (throttle can also be moved in this feature) to prevent tiredness during long trips. (As in current power boats)

Another feature allows one to reduce available power: 100% of the throttle can deliver 50% of the engine power (Or less). Useful for low speed fishing and harbour manoeuvre. (Black button) On the prototype, when the system starts, the low power mode is engaged, for safety reasons.
